Off-Peak Electric Cost of Service to go Up
November 30, 2011
Northwestern REC has held steady on stable rates throughout 2011, while offering increased services and reliability. Your participation in the off-peak heat rate has offered you substantial savings over the regular residential rate. The Board of Directors at the November Board Meeting approved a rate increase effective with the January 2012 electric bills. The increase will show on your electric bill in the Cost of Service. Members billed under the off-peak rate will see an increase of $2 a month or a dollar per meter.

Northwestern REC has held steady on stable rates throughout 2011, while offering increased services and reliability. The Board of Directors at the November Board Meeting approved a slight rate increase effective with the January 2012 electric bills. The increase will show on your electric bill in the Cost of Service. Residential members will see an increase of a buck ($1) a month.

The rain stayed away and a gorgeous summer day occurred for Northwestern REC’s 75th Annual Meeting celebration at the Crawford County Fairgrounds. The Co-op welcomed to this annual event a crowd of around 3,000, including Cooperative members and their families.

Fifteen Local Teachers Receive Grants
January 04, 2011
Northwestern Rural Electric Cooperative is happy to announce the recipients of its Clearly Brighter Teacher Grants. Each spring and fall semester, fifteen - $100 Clearly Brighter Grants are available to teachers and educators throughout its service territory. First implemented in 2001, these grants are intended to help local educators receive additional funding for special class projects. To date, Northwestern REC has awarded 300 Grants – totaling $30,000 – to local educators.

No Retail Rate Increase for 2011

I have some good news for the Membership of Northwestern REC : Electric Rates will not increase in 2011. We have completed our budget process for the New Year and have determined that our current rates are adequate for all of our anticipated needs for 2011.

Northwestern REC Students Awarded Scholarships

Eleven Pennsylvania Rural Electric Association Scholarships in Memory of William F. Matson were recently awarded to outstanding students whose homes are served by rural electric cooperatives. Two of those students are Northwestern REC members, Sarah Bristow and Ian MacKenzie.

Youth Tour Scholarship Winners

Officials from Northwestern Rural Electric Cooperative Association, Inc. announce the selection of nine area high school juniors to receive the 2010 Youth Tour Scholarship. The Youth Tour Scholarship experience includes a week long stay in Washington D.C. visiting the museums, monuments and elected officials. The students also meet with their peers from throughout the United States to learn about the cooperative way of business.
